Located inside Moncrief Park, this fenced, off-leash dog park has separate areas for large and small dogs, along with benches, waste stations, and agility equipment. It’s also right next to Moncrief’s public pool, playground, and pavilion, so there’s plenty to do if you bring the whole crew.
Freshly renovated in 2025, McKee Park now includes separate dog parks for large and small dogs, plus a splash pad, walking track, pickleball courts, and multiple playgrounds. It’s one of the newer, more spread-out options in town if you want room to roam.
Set inside the Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge, this roughly 1,000-foot boardwalk winds out over Bluff Lake through stands of cypress trees. Dogs are welcome on refuge trails as long as they’re leashed, and it’s a great option if you’re looking for a scenic, low-key outing rather than a quick walk — just budget some extra drive time.
J. L. King Senior Memorial Park features a lighted walking path, a disc golf course, and plenty of open green space, making it a solid pick for a longer walk with your dog on leash.
A paved, 4.4-mile trail that follows the Tombigbee River through downtown Columbus, with pavilions, benches, and picnic tables along the way. Dogs are welcome on leash — it’s a bit of a drive from Starkville, but a nice option if you’re already headed that direction for the day.

Yes. Lakeside is a pet-friendly student housing community and welcomes cats and dogs, subject to breed, weight, and registration requirements. Contact our leasing office for full details.
Yes. Certain breeds — including Pit Bull–type dogs, Bulldogs, Rottweilers, Akitas, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Canary Dogs, Chows, Dobermans, German Shepherds, Dalmatians, Huskies, wolf breeds, and Rhodesian Ridgebacks — are not permitted, and dogs are subject to a 75 lb weight limit.
There’s a one-time, non-refundable $350 pet fee and $30 monthly pet rent, charged alongside your regular rent each month.
You’ll need to provide an up-to-date vaccine record and a photo of your pet. Pets must be at least 6 months old. Once approved, you’ll sign an animal addendum, which all roommates on the lease must also agree to, before paying the pet fee and bringing your pet to the property.
You’ll be charged a $100 unauthorized pet fine. If you then choose to register the pet, you’ll still owe that fine in addition to the standard pet fee and monthly pet rent.
